grr.

ok, this makes me feel dumb. I'm looking for very low-level information on graphics programming in c. Like what the name of the standard graphics library is. How to open a window and turn particular pixels on and off.

and all I can find is really advanced stuff. 3d, wireframe, etc, and it all assumes the above knowledge.

ok, rant over. (unless anyone can point me to some really basic c graphics info? I'm decent at c programming itself, I just don't know how to draw things with it :)

No fair, trick question: that is, the C standard library doesn't do graphics. What platform, and do you know what your requirements are? (Speed, particular capabilities, has to fit into a larger program, ...)

OpenGL is my vague general suggestion. It's portable, capable, and doesn't make plotting a few points into too big a mess of boilerplate code.

hmm, ok. that would explain some of my difficulties.

specifics: runs on Redhat, fits into a larger program (the larger program is c-standard stuff + some robot control libraries). I don't think it needs to be all that fast, as again I'm not doing anything at all computationally-intensive (or rather, all the computationally-intensive stuff will be happening outside of the graphics module - it just needs to take a map coordinate and turn it black or white, or if I want to get fancy, a particular color).

I'll look into OpenGL. Thanks :)
