question

Is there any way to recycle old (recorded-on) VHS tapes? (Buffy, Angel, and 24, with a Smallville here and there)

I hate to have them become landfill filler. But they gotta go.

Clarification: they're recordings made onto blank tapes, not store-bought - Half Price won't take 'em, nor can I imagine anyone wanting them for viewing purposes. Hence my wondering specifically about recycling.

I don't know if they will take them, since now-a-daze oft-times beggars ARE choosey! But before trashing them perhaps you can offer them to local rehab, teen counseling or women's shelters?

Freecycle them.

Freecycle Snohomish County.

There was nothing listed for specific areas on http://www.freecycle.org/'s listing of freecycle groups.

Sadly, SnoCo's Freecycle group is broken, and has been for some time. I tried to join a year ago, and never got a response.

Boo to them!

I did a quickie internet search and found GreenDisk. They do have a 10lb minimum, which means that this either won't work for you, or it's worth going through your collection of technology items and see what else needs to be recycled.

Here's an article talking about someone's experience with them.

I'm curious if your area has something like Construction Junction here in Pittsburgh. Construction Junction takes all kinds of building goods (including entire kitchens, they once had a bunch of discarded card catalog files from a school library, just a bunch of weird etc.) and also have an extensive recycling program where you can drop off everything from cereal boxes to batteries to technojunk.

Hopefully you'll find something nearby and non-annoying.
