There was a long silence from the passenger seat as Andrei rebooted his brain to compensate for the shock of this concept.
So we had a date! After *ahem* other activities, we did the one thing it's just not possible to do with a baby - we went to a casino and played poker.
Highway 9, 2-10 spread. They have this odd pseudo-limit hold'em where you can raise anything you like - up to 10 at a time. (So blinds 1-2, someone raises to 6, next person to 16, next to 26, etc. Also 4-20 kill, which is when somebody wins a hand twice in a row the limit becomes 20 for the next hand.) It was an odd dynamic, and took me a while to get the hang of it. For one thing, bluffing doesn't work unless you front-weight it very heavily, because by the time a pot is built up you can't bet enough to push anybody out.
Things I need to work on, at least for this sort of table: play more mediocre but cheap hands pre-flop (even crap like J-6 suited in good position if it only costs 2 to call), and play fewer mediocre flops (middle pair and the like). Unfortunately I didn't figure this out until I was already in survival mode :)
I blew through my stack in 2 hours, Andrei doubled up, so we broke even overall (+3 bucks and 2 drinks). It was a lot of fun, though - the table was friendly, chatty, and the dealer was 6 or 7 months pregnant and incredibly sweet. It was actually the first time I've played in a WA casino since the smoking ban went into effect, and it makes the environment *so* much nicer.
We must do that again.
Then back to Bellevue, dinner, and our baby boy, who had miraculously been relatively happy the whole time! damiana_swan took pictures! And now we're home and Aiden is sleeping peacefully, and I'm *not* utterly exhausted. It feels odd in a way.
(Edit: this was all especially good because it was the first time both Andrei and I have left Aiden with someone else for more than an hour.)
A very good day.
