brain fried enough for a meme

I knew I was pop-culture illiterate, especially as a teenager, but this meme (adapted from lazuli93) highlights it particularly well.

Of the top 75 hits the year I turned 18, these are the ones I've at least heard of. The bold ones are the songs I actually liked.

20. Jeremy - Pearl Jam
23. Sexual Healing - Max-A-Million
25. Kiss From A Rose - Seal
26. Total Eclipse of the Heart - Nikki French
32. Send Me On My Way - Rusted Root
42. Lightning Crashes - Live
55. Good Intentions - Toad The Wet Sprocket
57. Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me, Kill Me - U2

Of course, it could also just be that 1995 sucked for music.

Hmmm, from that year, the only ones I like would be:
If you want, I can make you a mix cd of some of these songs...
I think you'd really enjoy a couple of these...
Coyote forbid, some of them actually display *gasp!* TALENT!!

6. Boombastic - Shaggy ... Fun, amusing, puts me in a bemused mind set...
9. Better Man - Pearl Jam
20. Jeremy - Pearl Jam ... Not only deeply emotional, but carries an excellent and grim message... I'll find the video for you if you like... The video really drives the point home, but not in a bad way!
22. When I Come Around - Green Day ... Not Green Day's best song, but still pretty good...
38. I Got Id - Pearl Jam
52. (I Could Only) Whisper Your Name - Harry Connick, Jr. ... Excellent tune reminiscent of certain artists from the 20's and 50's era...
58. Buddy Holly - Weezer ... Fun and amusing...
60. You Oughta Know - Alanis Morissette
61. Hurt - Nine Inch Nails ... Back when NiN was still worth listening to...
68. Hand In My Pocket - Alanis Morissette
69. I Kissed A Girl - Jill Sobule ... OOooo! Lesbian music! The girl kissed a girl?! Shock!! And, surprise humour ending to video, the husband comes home, and it's Fabio!! :)
70. Seether - Veruca Salt ... Fun, energetic, angry/angsty/rebellious, in your face, inspires good energy when you are in a pissy mood... Not highest level of talent, but acceptable...

(Post Script: I usually don't admit to liking Alanis Morissette due to her extreme lack of talent, but these particular songs have some good memories attached!)

I tried to do this one, but had a hard time with it. Many of the songs, I dont recognize the name but I'm willing to bet I'd know if I heard it. Then the ones I do recognize for sure, I don't remember how I felt about it at the time.

I ende up with 27. 10 that I remember quite clearly that I couldn't stand, and 5 that I solidly remember liking.

Try it four or five years earlier, though. I was inundated with pop music in public school, but as soon as it ended...

Hi, by the way, I'm Marvin. I found your journal on your okcupid profile, which is only about twice as embarassing as knowing so many of those songs. I'm stalled out in Tennessee, and at this rate expect to be in your area around September of next year. You seem rather interesting, and your posts about Aiden are sweet; I wish you all the very best as the sun's return draws near.
