I've read dozens of books and articles on starting your own business, what to do, what not to do, etc., but this is one of the best articles on the subject I've read yet:

10 Stupid Mistakes Made by the Newly-Self-Employed

(And, article title notwithstanding, he doesn't make you feel stupid for having made those mistakes; he actually explains why they're natural traps to fall into, which is refreshing.)

4. Putting on a fake front.

This is very much dependent on the type of business. Had I not used "we" for the past 10 years, I would not have had the business or opportunities that came my way. I've watched former employees and colleagues try to use "I" with much less success.

This is great for me to read right now.

I've been slowly learning to not worry so much about formality, but it's tough. And in my case, if I'm not up-front about my 'weirdness' I'm probably not going to attract the clients who would most want to work with me.

Thanks for posting this. I'm totally guilty of the "we" thing. Maybe I'll stop that now.
