The problem with the 'Tempting Fate' meme that's been going around is that you're expecting people who (do what they're told not to do) to then (do what they're told to do).
Mm, it depends. To my mind, placing something behind the cut merely puts the decision of whether or not to read it in the hands of the reader, not the writer. Whereas making a post protected lets the writer make the first choice of who reads it.
Others may have different views of it, though, so I see what you're getting at :)
I don't see what you're getting at, since a cut tag can never alter who has the ability to read the text.
I find cut tags are very good for keeping images off friends pages and letting them choose whether to view them and for putting potential spoilers about things I've read or seen into a place where only those who don't mind or have already read/seen it will bother to look.
Okay, the meme is putting up a lj-cut that says 'don't read'. If someone doesn't want it 'read', they are not going to do a public post lj-cut or no. So the point is getting your friends to click the link and having them reveal they have done so. This is contrary.
Yes, I understand that part. I just wasn't clear on why having a cut tag in a public post is contrary. But now I understand that you meant having a cut tag that you don't intend people to click on.

It's cute. It's just amusing because it expects people to act contradictorily to themselves within a single response.
I find this whole meme contrary. ;)

Or are you just being contrary?
