I'm strongly considering doing NaNoWriMo this year.

Gods help me.

That is less than 1700 words a day. That seems highly doable. Is it really that insane?

My father (a professional novelist) considers 1000 words to be a good day. Sure, more can come out on those rare special days, but consistently? That's the hard part.

I also have very loud internal voices of criticism, which will have to be silenced if I'm to pull this off (one of the reasons I want to do it).

Do it! Do it!

Like they said, you will undoubtedly put out something not all that great. But you will have done it. And maybe it can become the template for something better.
I dunno... I like a challenge. And I LOVE your tattoo!

1000 GOOD words is probably indeed a good day. But there is no reason why the 1700 word shave to be all that good. I mean if all it does it get you a slap-dash novel and help silence some inner criticisms, that's still a really great accomplishment.

Because you can always take the 50,000 words and rework them at a more comfortable, critical pace after the deal.

It is something I would consider doing some other November, myself.

More like 3,000 a day, and he's been known to do 5,000 routinely once he gets rolling.
