cute evil

a pox upon popularity

We chose the name Aiden for our son for a number of reasons, but popularity was not one of them. In fact, the current trendiness of the name was a pretty big downside as far as I was concerned.

Turns out that the name, at least according to this article, is not just popular, but the most popular boy's name of the year. Even his middle name is #33.

Amusingly, this seems to be a family curse. My parents named me Heather for a number of reasons, but again popularity was not one of them. They were even asked if I was named after the daughter of the mayor of Chicago, who was apparently the bellwether of that trend.

Anyway. *shudder* I'm going to have to apologize to him for the dozen others he knows with his name someday. Or come up with a good nickname and pretend that was the plan all along.
