firesea: self-portrait

er, whee?

Braxton-Hicks contractions, for those who don't know, are 'practice' contractions that prepare your uterus for labor. They start really early in pregnancy, but you don't generally notice them till the 5th month.

They're supposed to be painless to mildly uncomfortable.

Up till this week they have been. Now I seem to be getting one every other day that's approximately the pain level of a tattoo; easily manageable with focus and breathing, but when it hits me out of nowhere, there's a few seconds of HOLY HELL WTF until I adjust to what's going on.

On the plus side, I can definitely feel the workout when it's over; which, oddly, makes me feel much happier about my general state of uselessness, because at least I'm getting something done!

'Full term' is 37 weeks, and I'm within days of that mark. So, technically, I guess it could be any time now; but it's still (I gather) much more likely for these 'false labor' contractions to continue at a slooooowly increasing pace until I go into labor for real in 3-5 weeks.

I find myself feeling fascinated and excited. I will, no doubt, continue vacillating wildly between this and frustration/boredom.

I would do a dance of anticipation, but, er, ow.
