work ethic?

ok, so the data source is finally up and (relatively) stable....
the perl script is completely debugged....
just trying to get the IM-interface part of it working....
and AIM rate-limits me. (seems that if they detect a particular IP address trying to log in too many times, they block you. I thought it was just a particular account, but I can't get in on the spare that I haven't used for three days, either.) This is good for annoying spammers, but very bad for testing bots.

I've been fiddling around for two hours now waiting for it to let me back on, and I'm about ready to give up. I mean, on the one hand, this is a big deadline (has to be demoed to, like, the entire corporation on Thursday) and I "should" just stay here until it's done. On the other hand, there's not a bloody thing I can do until AIM lets me on again, and I have no way of knowing how long that will be. I could make myself feel better by saying I'll come back and work on it on Sunday, but the chances of my actually following through on that are extremely low. (I can't even work on this from home, since I'm testing from a particular server that is not my laptop.)

The sad part is I am actually motivated and brain-powered enough to work on this right now. But reality (aka AOL) thwarts me yet again. (And it's not nearly as enjoyable as when wyndam thwarts my getting out of bed in the morning :)

Screw this. I still think I can get it done next week. If I feel motivated enough, I can come in on Sunday, or test the output formatting, independent of the server, from home, and squelch the vacation hours I used on Monday. Time to go home, and prepare (i.e., clean) for ef2p and cortneyofeden's arrival.

That couldn't have been timed better.
I post this, go to start closing windows, switch to the buddy manager.... and the agent is *finally* logged in.
