*hugshugshugs* Calm. You can at least show them progress you've made and what you've found that doesn't work. Show them you've learned something that can be used in the future and that may be enough.

Break various appropriate limbs.

If you have unreadable ones, bring them and show that there is something, especially if you can explain a little-teensy bit of the mass of unreadable printouts to show that progress is going.

Yeah, who's Thea?

I think your only options are to be frank with them, and tell them basically what you told us. (Actually, if you were me, you'd tell them you wish to see them, and then leave the ball in their court, and then try to forget that they ever existed. Its much easier to not be dissapointed that way. Unfortunately, its not much of a way to maintain a relationship.)

Anyway, you can give them something of an ultimatum: 'Its really important that we have some time together during this visit. You can let me know when and where is the best for you, and i'll be there. However, it is very important to me that I can see you and spend time with you.' -- See what they say to that.

Another idea is to try and feel them out about why they're reluctant to come visit you. Is transportation the problem? (If so, you can handle the transportation.) Are they uncomfortable with some aspect of your living arrangements? (This may raise more problems in the long term, but the immediate solution would be to see them on neutral ground.)

Good luck.
